Estate

The Josef Winkler Estate is dedicated to the preservation, documentation, and presentation of the artistic work of Josef Winkler (1925–2025).

Its aim is to make the oeuvre of the Austrian painter visible in its artistic autonomy, to secure the relationships between individual works, and to foster further engagement with his practice through exchange with collectors, galleries, institutions, and the public.

Responsibilities of the Estate

The Estate is responsible for the review, organization, and documentation of the existing works, as well as the research and contextualization of exhibitions, bodies of work, and archival materials.

Furthermore, the Estate serves as a point of contact for inquiries regarding exhibitions, loans, research, press, and further mediation.

Estate Management

The Estate is managed by Christoph Glanz, grandson of Josef Winkler.

Its focus lies on the structured cataloguing of the work, the development of a long-term estate strategy, as well as the support of research and scholarly engagement with the oeuvre. It further aims at the careful and professional positioning of Josef Winkler within the Austrian and international art context.

Curatorial Support

Selected projects and presentations are curated in collaboration with Hartwig Knack- art historian and cultural scientist.

His engagement with the work of Josef Winkler includes several exhibitions and presentations and contributes significantly to the art-historical contextualization and public communication of the oeuvre.

Collectors and Lenders

The Estate maintains close contact with private collectors and lenders who hold significant groups of works and support the visibility of the oeuvre through loans, documentation, and collaboration.

This cooperation makes an important contribution to the ongoing research and future presentation of the artistic estate.
